Sometimes you just know!

This Mercedes van came in and we knew it was overweight before we weighed it, but that wasn't the only issue.

Day one

This 2021 Mercedes built by a competitor came to us from Solalights.

The generator would only run for short periods on load before shutting down, so it needed looking at.

Alternate Alternator

We took out the old alternator and replaced it with one that was smaller in build size and also lighter because of the general build style of the alternator.

Half the issue

By calculating the airflow required to keep the engine cool, we were able to remove more than 50% of the soundproofing and now the airflow was able to circulate better and not overheat.

Heavy load

On arrival we noticed it looked overweight which was confirmed after weighing it. The vehicle sat very low and not only was it putting extreme pressure on all of the suspension components, it would have invalidated the insurance in the instance of a crash.

Obstructed airways both in and out

With more soundproofing than necessary, the airways were being restricted, leading to overheating, and resulting in the generator shutting down.

Now the right weight and free from overheating, this generator vehicle is ready to run at 40kW to provide lighting power for Film and TV productions.
